Now I know what you are thinking, "well of course she would say that, she is a hair and makeup artist who owns a bridal beauty business and writes a beauty blog that refers to her followers as beautynistas". And to that statement I would have to respond by saying..fair enough. But seriously, in reality, there are a million reasons why makeup is not the place to start your budget cuts for your upcoming wedding. Let me guess, you wouldn't dream of cutting back expenses when it comes to your photographer right? Right! Why spend thousands of dollars on the best photographer you can find if you aren't going to give a
Moving on, I am by no means saying that you need makeup to be pretty or more beautiful, but I am saying that having a professional makeup artist do your makeup on your big day is KEY! They are trained on the little things like skin tones, skin types, lighting, coverage, cameras, the whole nine yards. This is their thing, and any good photographer will back up that statement. I have seen people do their own makeup for their weddings and I will not sit here and lie to you and say that they looked terrible at their wedding, however, photos are a completely different story. Have you ever looked back at old prom pictures and looked like a crazy person or a ghost because your foundation was 2 shades to light? And your blush was too dark and your date was so shiny he looked sickly? You have, you know you have, and I bet on that particular prom night you thought you looked awesome..until you saw those pictures. It has happened to all of us, my pale face experience also came with really bad hair and a dress that I am quite confidant is something comparable to a costume you would now see on a Honey Boo Boo episode but that's a whole different story. The moral of this story is this is all avoidable beautynistas, and if you have never listened to me before, listen to me now. This is your big day, don't take the chance, don't be a pale face on your wedding day.
So what should you cut back on instead of makeup? Well I won't sit here and tell you what specifically you should cut back on for your wedding. We are all vendors and we all make a living believing that our product or service can make your wedding a better experience so I am not going to demean or downplay other areas of the industry. So I will say this, figure out what is important to you, where your priorities lie in this special day. If you have a passion for flowers, then you obviously will want the most amazing flowers at your wedding and the money spent will be well worth it, but find areas that are less significant to you and start there. Maybe you don't care what people wipe their mouths or clean their hands with, and if so, cut back on linens. Maybe you think your play list is killer and are confidant it will keep your guests on the dance floor all night, so then cut back on the DJ or band. But even if you are not a makeup person or don't tend to wear makeup on a daily basis, I promise, you will wish you had the slightest bit applied on this memorable day.
