Hello beautynistas, how are we all doing this afternoon? Being that it is already May (yes MAY, I don't know where the time has even gone), wedding season is in full effect. I have recently dealt with a lot of brides that are either panicked or over whelmed with the last minute details of their wedding, which sparked the topic of today's post. Why do brides jump at the opportunity to book a photographer at any cost, but delay and under cut the only people that are going to be responsible for what they look like in those very photos??
Ladies and brides, you can NOT wait until the last minute to book your hair and makeup artists. Whether it be your favorite salon stylist or a private business like my own (www.youniquechic.net), these people book up fast. These are the people that are going to be solely responsible for how you look on that very day that you have prepared so far in advance for. Yet it still seems that they are shoved under the rug until the last minute, while florists and photogs are booked years in advance. Why why why is this?? With this being said, I wanted to give you a few tips on choosing the proper hair and makeup artists for your special day and how to proceed booking them with in a timely manner. I have seen one too many brides try to book a hair stylist a month before her wedding, only to have a panic attack when that stylist is just not available.
Here are the go to tips below:
- Research the style that you want to achieve on your big day. This way you will have an idea of what you are looking for when you meet with your stylist. You will know exactly how to explain what you want/don't want, and the 2 of you can work together to create the perfect style for you. If you like the back of one style you see and the front of another, or the lips on one face and the eyes of another, take both pics to show them. These are ARTISTS, this is what they do, your dream style or makeup application can be created.
- Research different businesses/stylists. This will help you to narrow down who you would like to contact first. Browse individual websites, pay close attention to reviews and photos. This will let you know how they are to work with, and show you if they have a similar style to you.
- Book your trial at least 4-6 months before your wedding. This will give you time to have multiple trials and really narrow it down to your favorite. This can get pricey, which is why researching businesses is so important. This is also the step where you can drive yourself crazy, so I would narrow it down to 2-3 trials. In those individual trials you can try several styles with out having to pay a new stylist each time.
- As soon as you are happy with your stylist, BOOK THEM! Like I said before, most stylists and artists book up fast, and most take deposits so book them asap. I would not wait any longer than 3 months up until your date to book, and that is at the absolute latest.
This is YOUR day, it is all about you and you should take the necessary steps and precautions to ensure that your centerpieces don't out shine you at your own wedding.
