Why Do Soon To Be Mom's Cut Off All Their Hair???`

Good Afternoon Beautynistas and Happy dreaded Monday ..eew!  I want to share some advice with some soon to be new moms out there as I have been asked several times in recent weeks advice on this very topic.  I have been approached and emailed by readers, friends, and clients about my thoughts on soon to be moms chopping off their locks and going shorter in preparation for the new baby.

I will start with this.  What do you hope to gain from cutting your hair shorter for the new baby?  Is it that you are just looking for something new and different to go with your new mommy glow?  If this is the case, then I am all for it and have no objections.  HOWEVER a good friend of mine and fellow hairstylist, Alexa Quiroga, brings a good point to the table, " Most women who choose to cut their hair choose to do so during their pregnancy.  And then later regret it".  So True!  Making these types of decisions while pregnant is never a good idea, you are hormonal, and have a million things on your plate, a drastic hair change should not be one of them.  Especially because most women, once the baby is born, tend to regret their decision to cut off their long sultry locks.  Others on the other hand have wanted their hair short for a while and are up for the change either way, in which case...cut away.

Now, if you are one of those new moms that thinks it will be easier once the baby is born if you have short hair that you won't have to deal with...STOP!!  Put the scissors down and back away from the styling chair.  This is NOT a reason to cut off your locks.  Let me put it like this, short hair seems easier because there is less of it there right??  Wrong.  With short hair you there is no wash and go, there is no roll out of bed and roll out the door.  You will always always always have to style your short hair in some way shape of form.  When your hair is longer you can at least wake up, throw in a cute pony tail and be on with your day....you can't throw short hair in a pony tail.  Not to mention the fact that most women who do this have never had short hair before.  So along with learning how to handle a baby on a day to day basis, you are now also having to learn how to handle and style your new hair.  And this my friends is where the regret starts to kick in.  I promise you, if you think it will be easier to manage...it will not be, you will still have to style your short hair.

So new moms, ask yourself before you make that appointment with your stylist....Am I doing this because I want to and I want a change?  Or am I doing this because I think it will somehow be easier to manage.  And make your decision based on those facts alone.
