Beautynistas, people have been holding out on us, well ...more like I have been stubborn! For the longest time people have been telling me "Cassi, you have to try a gel manicure". But when I thought gel manicure, I thought acrylics, painful soak offs, and thin brittle nails. Not to mention the thought of acrylics took me back to the high school days when we would all fight for appointments at the nail salon in the town mall so we could be" that" cool girl at school with tips when all we really probably ended up getting was a potential staff infection..NO THANKS. Well, I was wrong. Revel in that thought, I don't say it much. Gel manicures are all the rage.
Last week my co-worker broke it down for me as I continued to complain about my mani always chipping. And she was right, working in this industry where I wash my hands a million times a day between each painted face, or continuously spraying hairspray over my freshly manicured nails, or burning them by touching a curling iron too closely, a normal manicure just isn't going to cut it. I finally broke down and took her advice. This week when I went in to my neighborhood nail salon, ( from where my normal nail girl Suki has apparently quit so my new mission is to secretly find out her new location or audition for a new Suki) I told them "Ladies, I would like a gel manicure". Blank stare. Now I had envisioned this moment with bells going off, flashing lights and confetti, and some form of "Hallelujah" playing in the back ground. Nope, nothing. I got nothing. "Ok pick your color" was the exact response actually. Complete disappointment due to the many times they repeatedly try to convince me of getting this exact service done.
Any way, aside from a crappy cuticle job, this manicure was the best I have ever had. They basically paint each layer on, (base, 2 coats, and top) and sit your hands under a light after each one. So by the time they are done painting, your nails are dry..boom..instantly! So not only do I have beautifully painted, non chip nails, but I get to completely avoid the most dreaded part of the whole thing. Sitting and drying, which is inevitably every time when I mess them up and make them fix them. So in theory, I have done us both a favor here. I highly recommend the gels to anyone out there that is hard on their hands. They are completely safe for your nails, won't break or dry them out, and look absolutely stunning!
